welcome semester 2.
5th July 2010
This is ridiculous. We are back a whole 2 weeks earlier than the rest of the University and many more weeks earlier than other unis. And it doesn’t end there, this week’s timetable is probably the busiest week in this entire semester.
Not a bad start to the semester eh?
Anyways, I took a couple photos in the [extremely short] 2 week holidays. Most notable was one that I took when coming back from Sydney and the sky had a Genki Dama!! (Or Spirit Bomb, for the westerners).
Well it was really just the sun, but it had a nice rainbow ring circulating around it.
What drew me to it was mainly due to the fact that I had seen something very similar not long ago, but instead it was in a totally opposite setting. It was night time (fairly late too) and the moon had a ring (halo) around it. Different sources report that these rings are formed when moonlight is refracted off ice crystals in the upper atmosphere. This makes sense since, in Armidale we’re up in high altitude and the weather is cold enough to form ice crystals that high up.
Pretty cool huh?
