Holidays are here.
It’s been an interesting past 2-3 weeks. The first 2 weeks were filled with GP placement and a lot of clinical exposure. Met a lot of interesting cases and did some very cool practical work. I had given so many injections, I’m almost as pro as the practice nurses now!
Doing suture work on real patients was real good fun and all I need is more experience. These are one of the few things in medicine, that makes you feel as if you’re doing something and helping people.
Other than the odd injection, suture and annoyance with the Newcastle girl, GP placement was more or less just taking patient histories and various examinations. I’m more confident in finding ear drums with an otoscope and finding the optic nerve with an opthalmoscope.
Placement was beginning to get old and I think holidays had come at a good time. And what better way to start the holidays than to celebrate my girlfriend’s birthday. Friday night was a house party celebrating the birthday of both Fiona Doig and Sim. The night was filled with drunken foos ball, table tennis and screaming “Here’s to…” all night. I gave Sim her birthday present, a very beautiful green iPod nano to welcome her to the Apple family.
In addition to partying for her birthday, Sim’s family was also in town to celebrate her birthday and naturally I’d be meeting her rents for the first time. We had dinner at a “Fusion” restaurant in an arcade near One Baht. I think it went well. At least I didn’t get any death stares and my jokes worked well.
The rest of the weekend was spent chilling with Sim and the first year meddies.
Now, I’m back in Sydney and despite telling myself to be catching up on learning targets, I’ve only successfully trudged through Module 4. Concentrate!!!
